Planioles, a town of 500 inhabitants, is attached to the intercommunity of Figeac, under the prefecture of the lot department.
Figeac is located at the eastern end of the department at the borders of Aveyron and Cantal. A city in the former province of Quercy, it is now part of the Midi-Pyrenées region and has a population of 10,000.
Figeac is established in the Cele Valley, a tributary of the Lot, at the crossroads of Ségala, the Causses of Quercy and Limargue.
For nearly 20 years, Figeac has been labelled a City of Art and History by the Ministry of Culture. Around the ancient medieval abbey that allowed its foundation, Figeac preserves a remarkable collection of medieval houses intimately inscribed in today's city. The birthplace of Jean François Champollion, his family home has become a museum dedicated to the memory of the Egyptologist and the history of the writings of the world.
The city's economy relies in particular on the aeronautics and agri-food industries. The RATIER-FIGEAC factory, a heli-maker since 1904, an aviation equipment manufacturer, was joined by several subcontractors including FIGEAC-AERO, a start-up company in constant development.
In Figeac, education is provided from kindergarten to IUT and BTS.
The lot is also many tourist sites: Rocamadour, the Padirac chasm, St Cirq Lapopie, the lake caves. And for gastronomy, rocamadour (small goat cheese) the lamb of Quercy, the wine of Cahors not to mention foie gras.
